I admit that it took me a while to realise that quinoa is pronounced "Keen-wah", and not "Key-no-wah". That being, said quinoa is becoming a more and more popular choice at meal times and for good reason.

Some facts about quinoa:

  •  is a quick cooking grain (only 20 minutes.)
  • originates from Peru.
  • is gluten free.
  • can be red, black or gold in colour.
  • can be used for baking.
  • It's a great source of protein for vegetarians and vegans.

From a nutritional point of view 100g of quinoa has:

  • 374 calories.
  • 13g of protein.
  • 6g of fat.
  • 69g pc carbohydrates.

Quinoa is a nice all rounder with the addition of; potassium, iron, zinc, calcium and vitamin E. However you pronounce it, quinoa has a lot to offer and is versatile. Whether you use it as a salad, a side dish, or your main course it has a lot to offer.
