Metabolism is a tricky one, is yours fast or slow?
It's commonly thought that as we age our metabolism starts to slow, however this is not the case.
The reality is that our metabolism stays fairly consistent in adult life.
As the years roll on we lose muscle mass. As our muscles require a base amount of calories to function, this means that as they decrease with age we should need less calories in to our bodies through food….more often than not, we don't decrease calories.
Along with muscle mass, our activity levels also tend to tapper off as we get older.This also leads to a reduced amount of muscle. Again, this should result in less calories being required through our food.
Really the question should be, are you eating enough for your metabolism. J
