Are you someone that likes to chew gum?Do you ever notice that you find yourself more hungry? When are you?
Chewing gum may seem like a stop-gap, a way of avoiding food and having a little taste in your mouth but the reality is that physiologically you are fooling your body into doing the opposite.
By creating more saliva in your mouth, you are sending a message to your digestive system that food is coming its way. Your stomach gets happy, really happy, and does all that it needs to receive the food it thinks is coming its way. Fifteen minutes later and no food. Now your tummy is less happy, in fact, it's lodged an official complaint.
The rumbling you feel is your tummy shouting for the food that you promised, and the result is that you give in to its demands and eat.
While chewing gum may keep bad breath at bay, be aware that it won't fight off hunger and may well leave you eating more than you planned.
